Cherokee County free adoptions helps find all adult animals homes

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

After offering to waive adoption fees for dogs and cats that were at least a year old on Saturday, the Cherokee County Animal Shelter managed to adopt out 51 animals.

Sue Garcia, who works at the shelter, was ecstatic about the adoptions, and said she believes other shelters could benefit from the promotion.

"It is a good promotion, especially if you are at a point that you are having to euthanize due to space, or to promote dogs and cats that have been in the shelter for a while or are harder to adopt," Garcia said.

One of the best parts of the promotion was that not only were all of the dogs and cats who were at least a year old adopted, but many puppies and kittens were adopted as well.

"Even with the waived fees, only about half of the adoptions that day were free," Garcia said.
