Homeowner Claudette Redmond
Alarm system
MARIETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A man wearing a plain black T-shirt and khaki shorts approached a Marietta homeowner last Thursday, claiming to be an alarm company inspector.
He stated he was going door-to-door in the neighborhood, inspecting alarm panels to ensure they were connected to the police department.
Homeowner Claudette Redmond told CBS Atlanta News, the man was wearing a badge around his neck with the word "security" on it. She said the badge did not have a company name on it.
"In the beginning he was real overly friendly, just real gushy acting," said Redman.
When she told him she was happy with current service, the man didn't back down.
"Then he hollered, 'I might need to come in and check your telephone, your alarm.' He was going to give it a last try," said Redman.
Redman believes that man wanted to get inside to rob her. Police said her actions likely saved her from possible danger.
"He wasn't a big man. He was 5'8" or 5'9", something like that," said Redman. "But, uh, big enough to take me."
Redmond said she grew suspicious of the situation and refused to let the man inside, closed her door and called police.
The suspect then walked away with no vehicle in sight.
Police hope residents will be careful and not allow anyone inside their home without proper identification.
