Local Sikh temple prays for Wisconsin shooting victims

ROSWELL, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Monday members of a Sikh temple in Roswell will continue praying for the families affected by a deadly temple shooting in Oak Creek, WI. Six people, not counting the gunman, died Sunday.

"Our deepest sympathies and our heartfelt condolences for all those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. It's an act against humanity. We saw this random act a few weeks ago in Colorado. The basic teachings from us is love, peace and stay united," Parvinder Singh of SEWA Gurdwara Sahib said.

There are roughly 1,000 Sikh members at four temples in Georgia. Representatives from the Roswell temple say their faith is far from violent and instead, is rooted in peace. That's the idea behind their prayer for the victims.

"Let good happen to everyone. That's the intent," Singh said.

Members struggle to understand why anyone would target members of their faith and open fire at a place of worship.

"It's really sad that something has to happen at a place of worship, no matter whose place of worship it is. We're extremely grateful for the first responders," Rattan Bhavinani said.

The members stand strong in their faith and in their commitment to spread a non-violent message.

"I would say it's a difficult time for all of us to go through. All we can do is stay united and preach the message to you of love and kindness," Singh said.

Singh said they are not changing any security at the temple. They invite people to learn about the religion and worship with them.
