In wake of Loganville arson cases, Gwinnett police increase patrols

LOGANVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Gwinnett County fire investigators believe an arsonist is to blame for fires at three houses in a Loganville subdivision. Following the most recent one on Friday night, Gwinnett police have increased patrols in the Red Rose Lane neighborhood.

"Typically when we see a case like this, it's a kid or a teenager that's doing these things," said Gwinnett Police Corporal Jake Smith. "Anything we see clustered together in a small area like that is another indicator of it being a young person, or a teenager."

All of the fires have been set in the last two months, in the neighborhood surrounding Red Rose Lane just off Highway 78.

"It's like we go to sleep, and we try to find out who's going to be next," said resident Lucina Pike. "It's very scary."

All three homes were vacant at the time they were set on fire. One of them was a foreclosure. In another case, a family had just moved out when the fire was set.

Fire Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett Fire Arson and Explosives Investigation Section at 678-518-4890, or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.

Georgia Arson Control, Inc. offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for arson.
