FAYETTE COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Fayette County sheriff's deputies say they had no choice but to fire on a man who was holding a knife to a teen's throat.
Police responded to a fight at a home on Buckeye Road around 3:30 a.m. They encountered a 22-year-old man who was threatening a 17-year-old with a knife.
Investigator Brent Rowan said the suspect was ordered repeatedly to drop his deadly weapon, "The suspect refused to do so. Unfortunately the deputy had to use deadly force, discharging his duty firearm one time striking the subject."
The suspect was pronounced dead at the location.
As is common procedure in police involved shootings, the case is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
