ALPHARETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Alpharetta police are investigating a human fetus found in a shoe box in a freezer.
They said a cleaning crew was in an empty townhome in the Wedgewood Forest community. The cleaners made the discovery late Friday afternoon and called 911.
"The term in stage from pregnancy has yet to be determined by the crime scene investigation, but it is a fully developed fetus," said George Gordon, PIO, Alpharetta Public Safety. Gordon said the fetus was approximately six months.
Ashley Strickland lives next door. She said the tenants moved out several days ago. "They had people in and out all the time, so I don't know whose child that could really be," said Strickland. She also said no one appeared pregnant.
Detectives do not know if someone came into the empty home and left the fetus. They do not know if it was stillborn.
The fact that a fetus was found in the freezer was too much for residents.
"It's sad - it leaves you thinking, you know, what was that person thinking?" said Terry Franklin
"To leave it. I don't get. I don't understand," said Sherri Coley "It's a lot to take in. It's a lot to take in especially as a parent."
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is also involved in the case.
