CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Former NFL running back Jamal Lewis was released from jail after he was arrested for allegedly not paying child support, according to the Clayton Sheriff's office.
Lewis, 32, was charged with child abandonment, a misdemeanor, said Clayton County sheriff's spokesman Capt. Brian Crisp.
Lewis was released on bond shortly after midnight Wednesday.
An arrest warrant alleges that Lewis had no contact with his son for more than a year.
Lewis retired in 2009 after nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.
In 2003, Lewis ran for 2,066 yards - the second-highest total in NFL history.
