FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Cityhood isn't the only thing on the minds of people living in Brookhaven right now.
"Take the billboard down," resident Quill Healey said of a new digital billboard that many residents dislike.
Healey knows Brookhaven as well as anybody. He's lived there for more than 40 years and said the new digital billboard on Peachtree Road is an eyesore.
"We can see it at night and it's very distracting and how it ever got here to begin with is beyond anybody's belief," Healey said.
According to residents, Action Outdoor put the billboard up less than a year ago after getting a court order giving them permission. Now residents have hired lawyers to fight it.
"That consent order we believe was not entered in a timely basis and therefore didn't allow the court to have the jurisdiction to enter it. I know that's legal mumbo-jumbo, but it makes a big difference," attorney Lisa Harper said.
Harper also says the county passed an ordinance banning any new additional billboards prior to the digital one going up.
"We've been trying to work with Action Outdoor to try to come to some sort of resolution and it's my understanding that we've just gotten nowhere with the county," Harper said.
Residents say the billboard doesn't represent a positive family image in the community and its brightness will only be worse when the leaves fall from the trees.
"How a judge or whoever agreed to put this in, it was not done with any agreement of the community," Healey said.
