FORSYTH COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Monday morning identified the child who drowned Sunday as Stephon Alston, 7. Investigators said they did not think Stephon knew how to swim.
The drowning happened in Forsyth County at the Century Apartments in the Windermere subdivision.
Stephon was playing around the pool Sunday afternoon when his father left for a few minutes to dry off. Deputies said when the father came back, he saw his son at the bottom of the pool, not moving.
When deputies arrived, they said residents were already performing CPR.
Michelle Harding told CBS Atlanta her sister was one of the people who tried to save the boy.
"It just all happened real quick and nobody really knows," said Harding. "I just know there was water in his lungs. And when she was giving him CPR, some water was coming out of his mouth."
Stephon was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"Please be in prayer for the family who has suffered this loss," said Mary Nix, a resident.
Deputies said the water was three to five feet deep.
Investigators did not suspect foul play, but the Special Victims Unit is investigating to determine if charges should be filed.
