APS promotes healthy living during back to school event

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The start of school is right around the corner for Atlanta Public Schools. Today, to get students and parents ready the new year, APS hosted a back to school festival.

The purpose of the event was to prepare students, parents and the community for the new school year by reinforcing good health, exercise and healthy eating tips.

"Often people don't appreciate the direct connection between food that is eaten and impact on health," Rene Glover, president of the Atlanta Housing Authority which was an event sponsor, said.

Linda Adams made it a point to bring her granddaughter, India, out to this event. She believes proper nutrition combined with lots of exercise helps India in a variety of ways.

"More energy, sleep well, thinks well and concentrates better," Adams said.

Organizers told CBS Atlanta the one thing they want people to take away is that healthy living is a family affair.
