The vice president of public relations at Chick-fil-A died suddenly Friday morning.
According to a statement, Don Perry worked for the company for 29 years.
The statement continued, "He was a well-respected and well-liked media executive in the Atlanta and University of Georgia communities, and we will all miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Chick-fil-A has been the center of controversy after CEO Dan Cathy made a comment about marriage to the Baptist Press.
When asked about his company's position on the traditional family unit as opposed to gay marriage, Cathy said, "Well, guilty as charged. We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."
The comment caused an rash of protests against and in support for the company.
