ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta police have terminated the employment of an officer involved in a fatal accident.
Fulton County police charged Officer Joshua Sieck with second-degree vehicular homicide after Jacqueline Culp, 59, died in a traffic accident that he was involved in.
The Atlanta police Department released this statement:
"Today, Atlanta Police Chief George N. Turner terminated Officer Joshua Sieck's employment with the Atlanta Police Department effective immediately. The Atlanta Police Department continues to send our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Mrs. Jacqueline Culp."
Sieck was responding to an emergency call when the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on July 21, according to Fulton County police, who is investigating the crash.
Investigators said Sieck was traveling westbound on Cascade Road and collided with a BMW 740i sedan traveling southbound on Fairburn Road.
Culp, a passenger in the BMW, died at Atlanta Medical Center.
"We went with second-degree vehicular homicide due to the fact there was
no malice, forethought, no intent. It was just another unfortunate
accident that affects several families," said Fulton County Police
Detective Melissa Parker.
Sieck's first court appearance will be Sept. 5 at the South Fulton Magistrate Court.
