COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Gun shop owners across the county and in Metro Atlanta are reporting an increase in customer interest in arming themselves.
At Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna, where guns are big business, owner Jay Wallace said his recent surge in gun sales is partly fueled by the Colorado shooting rampage.
"We had a 300 percent increase from Saturday a year ago. I think some people are somewhat nervous as they always are whenever there is a tragedy with firearms," said Wallace.
There was also a gun show going on at nearby Cobb County Civic Center.
Customer Jonathan Price is not a first-time gun buyer, but he bought a gun on Saturday following the Colorado shootings.
"It's kind of like crazy to think that it happened because you don't expect it to happen," said Price. "But there are just some people out there that aren't right."
Wallace said that's the same thing he's hearing from a lot of his customers.
"They talk about it being a tragedy. And the impact of one crazy person that do such a thing."
All of the gun shops we talked to stressed, if you're going to buy a gun, you need to make sure you get trained so you know how to use it and store it properly.
