NAACP holds rally for man in prison for 'self-defense killing'

COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People held a rally outside the steps of the Cobb County courthouse on Wednesday.

They are defending a man some are calling the "black George Zimmerman."

John McNeil was sentenced to life in prison for killing a man on his property in 2006. He said the man had a box cutter and it was self-defense.

His supporters said the stand-your-ground law applies in his case. That law allows people to use deadly force in defense of one's own property.

Members of the NAACP say McNeil's only crime was being black and he should've never gone to prison.
