MONROE COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reports that a 6-year-old Monroe County girl is dead after being accidentally shot by her 13-year-old brother.
Police said the accidental shooting happened after midnight on July 24.
According to reports, the gun was laying on a bed and fell on the floor where it discharged. The bullet from the .22 rifle struck the 6-year-old in the chest.
The gun was used earlier in the day to shoot armadillos in the yard around the house, according to reports.
The girl was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia, but died a short time later.
No charges were filed.
