STATE COLLEGE, PA (AP) -
Many in Penn State's hometown worry NCAA sanctions on the football program might inflict damage on a community that relies on big home game crowds and a loyal alumni base.
Analyst Matt Powell of SportsOneSource says sales of Penn State apparel have already dropped. But the school gets only a portion of total sales, so the financial impact may not be that big.
Chris Stathes, who manages a breakfast eatery near Penn State's campus, says he wouldn't be surprised to see 20,000 or 30,000 empty seats at home games.
That'll hurt businesses like his, but he says the tourism industry is relieved the NCAA didn't shut down the football program.
Forty-year season ticket holder Sam Zamrik says he'll keep buying tickets.
