Car crashes through Curves in Decatur

DECATUR, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

It was a workout seven women at the Curves location on DeKalb Industrial Way were not expecting.

A white Prius drove through the front door sending glass and debris flying.

"It was a loud crash," Tina Foster said.

Foster was far enough away from the crash so she didn't get hurt. But within a matter of minutes she would have been standing right where the Prius hit.

"We were just here, every circuit is 30 seconds, we were only here for five minutes, then we moved. So, luckily nobody started in this area."

Foster described the driver of the car as a woman in her 60s.

"She was dazed and confused and just started crying, she accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, it was just an accident," Foster said.

Since the car hit the front door and damaged the glass, there was no way out. So Foster said the people inside had to climb out a side window that used to be a drive-thru window.

"It was terrible (climbing out the window) I couldn't get my legs up high enough," Mattie Thompson said. "You know, gee-wiz it was something else."

Instead of waiting for first responders Foster said she helped get people out of the building by putting chairs near the window sill.

"We just climbed out, one by one," Foster said. "I am just glad nobody was hurt. I am telling you, I thanked God, I don't know how many times today. It has been a horrendous day. I couldn't function. I was like let me go home where it is safe."
