DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

DeKalb County police will continue Monday investigating a bizarre kidnapping and shooting.

The victim, 25, ran to a church for help, interrupting Sunday service.

Pastor Tommy Dunn of St. John Baptist Church on Wilkins Road said the man was bleeding profusely.

"When he came to the door, he was covered in blood," Dunn said. "He collapsed at the entrance of the church."

Dunn said the man told him he had been kidnapped and held hostage at a nearby abandoned house. "He claims he had been kidnapped and hog-tied, and somehow or another he got loose, and when he did, he got shot with a .40 caliber under his left arm."

Dunn said church members scrambled to help the man, bringing paper towels to try to stop the bleeding.

"I ran back to the victim, seen where he was shot at, and I applied pressure," Justin Simmons, a member and a Marine said.

A spokeswoman for the DeKalb County Police Department said the man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

DeKalb County police have not released any information on a possible motive or arrests in order to "....protect the integrity of the investigation". It is being investigated by DeKalb's Major Felony Unit.
