Lottery tickets stolen from the Marathon gas station at 4315 East Jodeco Rd. have given police a big break in a series of armed robberies.
According to Henry County police, the suspect robbed the store Marathon the morning of July 6.
Approximately six hours later, police said the man was cashing the lottery tickets he stole from the store at another gas station just down the road.
"This guy is waiting for us to get him," Sgt. Joey Smith with Henry County police said.
Detectives, through the Georgia Lottery, were able to track the suspect down to the BP at 5945 East Lake Pkwy.
Surveillance video taken from the store shows the suspect scratching the tickets at the counter. The entire time, cameras are taking clear pictures of his face, pictures that are a lot better than the images taken from his three previous robberies.
"Because he is not in costume, he is not in his robbery kit he's just an average Joe in this video, you can see he has facial hair and his face," Smith said. "We thought someone could reach out and help us with it."
During the Marathon robbery the suspect pointed his gun at the owner's pregnant sister-in-law.
"She's OK," Nadeem Sheikh said. "But, customers and my employees are scared since there is so much police activity around here."
It was Sheikh‘s stolen lottery tickets that gave police a clear image of the robber.
"The first time he robbed us, he grabbed some lottery tickets," Sheikh said. "I reported it to the Georgia Lottery and they put a hold on those tickets and then he went to cash those tickets and he was unable to cash them."
According to police, the suspect drives a 1995 to 1997 white Ford Explorer with a sunroof and luggage rack.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
