GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
As elections draw nearer, Gwinnett County officials said illegally placed campaign signs have become a growing problem.
On Thursday, code enforcement crews removed more than 150 campaign signs that were placed in the right of way which is the area closest to the curb.
Gwinnett code enforcement officers said the "biggest offender award" goes to Chris McClurg who is running for superior court judge.
Police said of the 150 illegal signs they picked up, 90 belonged to McClurg.
"I give signs to a lot of folks," McClurg told CBS Atlanta News, who assured he and is supporters have not been putting up signs in the right of way.
"I've been out every day for the last 10 days through the whole county putting up signs, correcting other people's signs that are in the right of way," said McClurg.
Police said the signs are not only distracting but at times dangerous when they block motorist's view.

T4, we removed over 150 "illegally placed signs" today all over unincorporated Gwinnett. Most of them political in nature. All placed in the right of way or on property without the property owners permission. Our biggest offender award goes to Chris McClurg with over 90 signs removed today. I saw an interview with him where he stated that law enforcement has better things to do than remove signs and he feels that it is not a big deal. We will be removing all illegally placed signs, political or otherwise, no one is exempt. We have been handling an overwhelming string of e-mails and phone calls about the ridiculousness of the amount of signs being put out. The problem is that after the election see how many of these candidates devote as much time picking these signs up as they did posting them out. We will cite any offender observed placing these signs in the right of way or affixing them to street signs, poles etc. Any help you can get with media would be great. Thanks. Chris
