Hartsfield-Jackson cab drivers work in hot, dirty conditions

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

There are some Tough Questions for Hartsfield-Jackson officials after cab drivers claim they are forced to work in the summer heat in an airport-owned building that's not air conditioned.

Cab drivers claim they have not had AC in the building all summer.

The drivers called airport management and city leaders to fix the problem, but the problems remain.

"This is unacceptable," a very upset Sharmarke Yonis said.

Turns out the air conditioning issue is just one concern.

Drivers reported the restroom hasn't been cleaned for weeks, and there is no running water.

The cabbies also said the entire building is unsanitary.

"Not even Fulton County jailhouse worse than this one," Yonis said.

Airport officials declined our request for an interview but a spokesperson responded with a statement.

"The central air conditioning is working at the taxi assembly area located at the airport," Hartsfield-Jackson spokesperson Ketena Carvajales said. "The temperature always rises inside this building in the summer, due to outside heat entering from the door being propped open."

The cab drivers dispute the claim and said late Thursday that they will continue to fight for better working conditions.
