Former Georgia Tech student pleads guilty

Posted: Updated:

A former Georgia Tech student has pleaded guilty after prosecutors accused him of hacking into the school's computer system to change his grades.

The state attorney general's office says Shayan Panjwani pleaded guilty Wednesday in Fulton County Superior Court to two counts of computer trespass.

Prosecutors say he illegally accessed the school's grading system and increased his recorded grades in two classes. A graduate student noticed the discrepancy and reported it to school authorities. Panjwani confessed when confronted and is no longer a student at Georgia Tech.

The judge sentenced Panjwani to two years of probation and ordered him to pay a fine of $1,000.
