ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Residents in one southeast Atlanta neighborhood are fed up because every time it rains their homes flood.
The neighbors told CBS Atlanta the problem is caused by the city of Atlanta's drainage system.
Homeowner Jennifer Schmidt has lived in her home for a little more than a decade.
Schmidt has photos and video of flood waters engulfing her home over the years.
"Anything over two inches means we may get flooded," Schmidt said.
Schmidt's home is one of 17 along Avondale and Teton roads that chronically floods.
Attorney Richard Kopelman represents the homeowners.
Kopelman filed a lawsuit against the city on their behalf last year.
He claims his clients have dealt with these issues for a decade and are now demanding a fix.
"The city is responsible to its citizens," a very animated Kopelman said. "To do what is necessary to maintain these neighborhoods in a safe and habitable condition."
Watershed spokesperson Janet Ward told CBS Atlanta "At this point the city doesn't have a solution."
Ward claims the city plans to assemble a team of private sector engineers to try and resolve this decade old problem.
