Southeast Atlanta resident: 'We are under fire'

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A woman who lives at Madison Place Townhomes in Southeast Atlanta said she is afraid to go outside at night because of all the gunfire.

Since early June, the woman, who did not want to be identified for fear of retaliation, said the shootings have been constant and are getting worse.

"It got to be the point, they were shooting at cars and houses," she said. "I was outside one day and a car pulled up and did a drive-by at 12 in the afternoon. The police come, but they don't make a presence unless you call them. Other than that, we don't really see them."

A row of townhomes is riddled with bullets. A window in one of the homes has four bullet holes in it. Neighbors said there were children asleep in the room when the bullets came screaming in. The mother, we are told by neighbors, broke her lease and has since moved.

"I guess until somebody dies or gets hurt, they won't make it a point to make some changes," the resident said.

Since the gunfire erupted, the resident said she has sent email after email to the homeowners association, but they are not responding to her pleas for help.

"Management aren't doing anything, taking money and not doing anything," she said.

CBS Atlanta News tried contacting the HOA on Tuesday but did not get a response back.

Fulton County police said their major crimes division and crime suppression unit are aware of the problems and are investigating the shootings.
