ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Ralph Macchio has come a long way since The Karate Kid.

CBS Atlanta's Jennifer Banks caught up with Macchio to see what he has been working on.

His current TV roles include a recurring role on Fran Drescher's sitcom, Happily Divorced

But Macchio is just as comfortable behind the camera as he is in front of it.

He has also co-created a couple of TV shows that are currently in the works.

His newest role is the executive producer of a nine-part unscripted series for National Geographic Channel called American Gypsies.

The documentary tackles the stereotypes about the Romani or Gypsy people.

Macchio introduces you to the Johns family, one of the most prominent gypsy families in New York City.

The series documents their struggle to uphold their standing in the community and expand their psychic healing shop empire amid constant family strife and drama.

You will get a firsthand look inside elder assemblies, arranged marriages between teenagers, the unique court system where disputes are settled and auspicious tarot card readings.
