ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Cedric the Entertainer has teamed up with TV Land to bring a new brand of comedy in The Soul Man.

Cedric's character, the Rev. Boyce "The Voice" Ballentine, is an R&B superstar-turned-minister who takes over as preacher of his father's church.

Niecy Nash stars as the reverend's wife, Lolli.

Cedric the Entertainer tackles issues like raising a pastor's child and getting the women in his congregation to accept his wife.

Jennifer Banks asked Cedric the Entertainer if he was worried the show would offend or cross the line.

"Oh definitely, that was one of the things that we were concerned with. We want to make a funny show that is relevant. We are going to show honor and respect to the faith world. At the same time, we want to tell some stories and push the envelope." said Cedric.

The show is filmed in front of a live audience. Cedric is no stranger to being in front of people since he comes from the comedy world.

He said he sometimes ad-libs and makes sure to entertain the crowd.

Cedric was born in Jefferson City, MO. He runs his own production company and a philanthropic organization that provides scholarships and outreach programs to enhance the lives of inner-city youth and their families in his hometown.

He has family in Atlanta and said he loves to visit the restaurants and shops in Buckhead.
