DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
On Friday, "Good Growth DeKalb," a group of DeKalb County residents who are protesting the building of a Walmart in their community, will rally from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Medlock Road, North Decatur Road and Scott Boulevard.
Selig Enterprises, a local development company, wants to build a 150,000-square foot Walmart Supercenter in the Suburban Plaza Shopping Center located at that intersection.
"We are continuing to reach new members of the community who are concerned about how this development will affect the surrounding areas," said Good Growth DeKalb co-chair Louise Runyon. "At the same time, we are scheduled to meet with Selig Enterprises this week, to discuss those concerns."
Since its formation late last year, Good Growth DeKalb has been circulating a petition to members of the surrounding neighborhoods. The group has close to 2,500 signatures.
