Norcross apartment residents on day 3 without power

Posted: Updated:
NORCROSS, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Residents at Wood Chase Apartments in Norcross said someone apparently trying to steal power has left them in the dark.

Building number eight, which houses 22 units, has been without power since Monday.

Residents like Tiffany Coker feel they have been getting the run-around about who is responsible for making the needed repairs.

"The complex blames the power company. The power company blames the complex," said Coker.  "It's like whose going to be responsible to take care of these people?"

Both Georgia Power and the apartment management tell CBS Atlanta they are looking into the matter.

On Wednesday night, electricians were working to replace the meter boxes that blew out when someone tried to steal electricity.

The work can't go fast enough for the families being sweated out.

"It's very aggravating," said Coker. "And now it's become completely scary situation."

Coker and her father, Larrel Coker, are desperate for help. He needs electricity to operate his breathing machine at night.

"I don't know where I'm going to put my dad up for the night, so that he has the equipment he need to basically keep living," said Tiffany Coker.

The family also lost all their food in the refrigerator and don't have money to stay in a hotel.

Residents said they were told they will likely be without power again Wednesday night.

John Craft with Georgia Power said they have crews on standby to restore power as soon as the meter boxes are fixed and that they are looking into who might have tried to steal electricity since tampering with a meter is a punishable offense.
