HALL COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Hall County Commissioner Craig Lutz told CBS Atlanta News that his fellow commissioners are considering tougher boating regulations on Lake Lanier after two tragic accidents on the water this summer.

"I believe it's up to us as all governments, because it's a multi-jurisdictional issue, to come together to see what we can do overall to try to improve the safety on the lake," Lutz said.

Lutz said that members of the commission will be meeting with Hall County emergency responders on Wednesday to discuss options for making the lake a safer place.

Boater Larry Hardman is in favor of new regulations.

"It seems like people don't have common sense. I would like to see the DNR out here a little more," Hardman said.

Hardman said he's only seen the DNR three times in 13 years on the lake.

"There's people out there that have you shaking your head when you see them and how they're not driving safely," Hardman said.

Hall County Commissioners said they're considering all options at this point which include the possibility of requiring boaters to carry a license, take a boating safety course or simply improving enforcement.

"They're all ideas that are being tossed around.  I can't say any idea is better than the other one until we get a good chance to sit down and take a look at it and certainly we need to see what some of the problems were," Lutz said.
