ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Atlanta police are investigating a bizarre robbery and kidnapping in Midtown on Tuesday morning.
A man told police he was at the Checkers Drive-In, located at the intersection of 10th and Spring Streets, around five a.m. when a homeless man asked him for food.
The man said he started to give him food, when the beggar pulled out a gun.
The man told police the gunman then forced him to drive his own car to his home at the 12th Street West Apartments.
Once inside, the victim said the kidnapper tied him up and ransacked his place. Eventually, the gunman forced the man back into his car and ordered him to drive to Walgreen's on Piedmont, nearly two miles away, and empty his bank account at the ATM. However, that's when the man was able to get help.
"Somehow, the victim alerted the security guard inside the store, and the suspect, upon seeing that, fled the scene," said Captain Adam Lee III, with the Atlanta Police Department.
However, the odd story doesn't end there. Lee said the thief then proceeded to give away his loot.
"(He) gave his stolen items, a cell phone, a wallet, and some other items to a perfect stranger outside before he ran away," said Lee.
Police have no leads or witnesses. However, they said the victim's story is believable, due mainly to the abrasions he received on his wrist from being tied up.
