Trees crash into homes during storms

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Strong storms whipped through metro Atlanta on Monday night and tossed trees onto homes and power lines.

"It did a lot of damage to that house," said neighbor Willie Thompson. "I heard a big ball of wind. It knocked my lights out, and I came to look outside. I seen that tree laying on the house."

The tree's trunk sliced right through the wooden structure - exposing the frame and fiberglass insulation.

"I knew it had to be something. It moved quick and fast. It was a fast-moving storm, I know that," said Thompson.

Just one half mile down the road Georgia Power crews brought in a bucket truck to take care of a power line that fell onto another home.

The tree didn't stop there. The strong winds pulled the tree up from the ground, and it landed on the roof.

Georgia Power said 2,800 customers in metro Atlanta were without power at 11 p.m. Monday night.
