DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A DeKalb County police chase ended with a crash early Friday morning and sent seven people to the hospital.
"You could hear somebody speeding, then a crash, and a loud boom!" said Deborah Hayes who lives nearby.
Police tell CBS Atlanta it started when an off-duty officer heard gunshots at The Shadowroom, a nightclub on Covington Road in Decatur, just before five a.m. When the officer went to investigate, he saw two vehicles flee the scene.
Police spotted one of the cars, a Dodge Durango, and pursued it to Redan Road where it crashed into a tree and a pole near South Hairston Road.
"I heard a bunch of children, sound like young teenagers, hollering and screaming," said Hayes.
Seven people were inside the SUV. One patient with critical injuries and two with serious injuries were taken to the hospital. Four others were transported as a precautionary measure.
Investigators said the other car that left the shooting, a Jaguar, was spotted at Highway 78 and Hugh Howell Road. A victim with a gunshot wound to the leg was taken to Grady.
Police did not immediately release the names or ages of those involved.
