Mark Melvin/CBS Atlanta- Several townhomes were damaged in an overnight fire.
CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
An early Thursday morning fire in Jonesboro that displaced three families will be ruled accidental. Investigators said a woman left a pot on a hot stove.
"The fire was pretty bad. It was coming out the back end and front of the building," said Denzel Satterfield, who lives nearby.
The flames broke-out at the Riverwood Townhomes off Flint River Road at 12:30 a.m. A total of four units were affected by fire and water damage. One unit was unoccupied.
A woman and two children lived in the unit where the fire started and which sustained the most damage.
A neighbor, shooting fireworks, noticed the flames and started knocking on doors to get everyone to safety. He then tried to fight the flames himself.
"I grabbed my water hose and a couple of buckets here and tried to put it out. It was burning pretty bad," said Dereon Laster.
No injuries were reported in the fire.
