Man extricated from truck toppled by strong winds

MCDONOUGH, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Strong winds from Tuesday night's storms left a mess across metro Atlanta.

In Henry County, straight line winds toppled a semitrailer pinning a man inside - firefighters rushed to pull him out of the wreckage. He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

In a neighboring subdivision, powerful winds toppled trees and damaged homes.

"This is just one tree out of many," said neighbor Tom Patrick as he cleaned up the mess. "There's a lot of damage throughout the neighborhood."

Patrick and his two sons used an ATV to clean up the downed limbs and debris.

"I thought we were going to have to go into the basement to stay safe," Patrick's son, Ryan, said.

Along Highway 42, trees snapped and limbs littered the shoulder.

Neighbor Keith Johnson took a stroll through the neighborhood to survey the damage.

"I'm kind of surprised to see some of the trees down and the trampoline over there," Johnson said.

Neighbors said a trampoline took flight and flew across the street nearly 100 yards.

"The trampoline was up against the back of that house right there, somehow it got lifted up their 6-foot fence - went across the yard, down the street and landed in that pile of trees down there," Patrick said.

The snapped tree trunks illustrate the power of the storm's winds.

"Seeing the trees sway left and right, these were completely down-force, that was a little frightening," Johnson said.

A little frightening, but authorities said there weren't any other injuries in this storm.
