Two boys killed in a boating accident on Lake Lanier were laid to rest Tuesday.
The funeral for Griffin and Jake Prince was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Suwanee Dam Road in Suwanee.
A memorial was held Monday night.
"We know that their physical bodies are no longer with us, but we know that they live on," Family friend Jennifer Leifson said.
The Prince brothers were killed on June 18 after Paul J. Bennett, 44, allegedly caused the boat crash that killed the brothers.
Authorities said Bennett left the scene of the crash around 10:30 p.m. near Shoal Creek Campground on Lake Lanier in Hall County.
Jake, 9, was killed at the scene of the crash. Griffin, 13, was thrown overboard after Bennett's boat slammed into the vessel. His body was recovered 10 days after the accident.
Department of Natural Resources officers arrested Bennett at about 1:30 a.m. at the marina.
Bennett was charged with boating under the influence. He bonded out of jail on June 19. Police said he may face more charges.
A memorial fund for Jake and Griffin has been set up through Wells Fargo.
"It's just been a beautiful thing to see the outpouring of love just from people that have never crossed paths with the Prince family who now feel a little part of the family and will forever," Leifson said.
Donations can be made to account #7581668121 in the name of Griffin and Jake Prince.
"They are together forever. This is something we strongly believe in and having the men and women who sacrificed so much to recover Griffin's body and the first responders to Jake and all of those men and women here have definitely become part of the Prince family,"Leifson said.
Since the accident, Gwinnett County police officers joined DNR rangers to patrol Lake Lanier with a special emphasis on cracking down on drunken boaters.
Officers are out looking for anyone boating under the influence heading into the July 4 holiday.
