Georgia Tech student robbed in his dorm room

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Atlanta police released surveillance video, on Monday, of a man they believe is 1 of 2 men responsible for a string of crimes against Georgia Tech students.

Police got the video from the Marathon gas station on the corner of 10th and Northside after they said the suspect used a stolen credit card from 1 of 5 robberies that happened on June 22.

Police said the same two men also robbed a Georgia Tech student inside his dorm room.

It happened at the North Avenue Apartments East around 1 a.m. Sunday.

The student was awakened by two young men riffling through his dorm room.

When he asked the suspects what they were doing, they pointed a handgun at him and took off with his laptop and cell phone.

The student was not injured.

Officers said once the crooks made it inside the locked building, the student became a victim of opportunity.

"We are relieved no one was hurt in this incident. However, we are concerned the student left his dorm room unlocked and ajar," said Deputy Chief Robert Connolly with GA Tech police.

Campus police are still investigating how the armed men made it inside the locked building.

"It was pretty scary to know people can get in here. I think it has to do with people letting each other in because it's just like, 'Hey, I don't have my card,' so I guess it's just people who didn't realize they didn't go here." said student Sarah Graham.

The suspects are described as two young men in their late teens or early 20s.

Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call Georgia Tech police at 404-894-2500.
