ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

All 12 of Atlanta's city swimming pools open during a weekend of record-breaking heat.

The city of Atlanta is taking proactive measures to help citizens beat the heat this weekend.

Hundreds of folks are taking a free splash in the pool, to help keep cool.

Atlanta's Grant Park is one of seven city pools waving fees and offering free admission this weekend. Other parks include Adams, Anderson, Dunbar, Pittman, Powell and Thomasville.

"We know this is going to be a challenging weekend for families and seniors in particular. So we wanted to make sure the safety of children and seniors are particularly well taken care of," said Duriya Farooqui with the city of Atlanta.

Residents, especially seniors, are urged to stay out of the heat and in a cool place.

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will also have bottled water on hand for anyone needing a cool drink.
