FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Fulton County Code Enforcement Officers conducted a sting operation at 7085 Roosevelt Highway on Friday.
Investigators are in the process of citing the owner of the business, Daniel Calhoun, with running what they called an illegal grease operation on the property. Calhoun has been contacted and told to stop operating.
"Basically what we have is an operation that was brought to our attention that was operating illegally in terms of land use. There's restaurant grease that's being stored on site without proper permits," Wayne Wright with Fulton County Code Enforcement said.
CBS Atlanta News first exposed the issue last week. We tried to speak with the owner of the business at that time and an employee said Calhoun was not there.
"Do you know when he'll be back?" CBS Atlanta Reporter Adam Murphy asked.
"He should be back in a couple of hours," an employee said.
Investigators found gallons and gallons of grease stored on the property, even though the company is listed as a truck driving business online.
"If you're operating illegal operations in terms of land use then we will deal with you, we will come after you," Wright said.
Officials also found grease seeping into the ground on the property. Now investigators are trying to determine what the grease was being used for.
"There are some allegations that grease is being picked up and operating as a rogue operation, meaning they're picking up this grease from restaurants throughout the night without permission. It remains to be seen and that part remains under investigation," Wright said.
