GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A Gwinnett County man is in jail after police said he tried to hire a hit man.
On Tuesday, Gwinnett County police detectives were approached by an informant who told detectives that he had been approached by Joseph Memar, 65, about killing a man.
Police said Memar wanted the informant to find him a "hit man" to kill his former business partner, Alireza Jebraeilli, 59, of Norcross.
On Wednesday, the informant met with the Memar again.
Detectives conducted surveillance on the meeting and said Memar offered the informant an initial payment of $1,500, with an additional $1,500 to be paid upon the death of the victim.
A photo of Jebraeilli was doctored to appear as if he had killed.
On Thursday, the informant met Memar again, while under surveillance.
The informant showed the photo to Memar, who shook the informant's hand and thanked him, police said.
Memar told him that he would pay the remaining $1,500 the next day and after the meeting, detectives arrested Memar.
He was taken into custody without incident.
Memar has been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder. He remains in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
