DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

According to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office, a man has pleaded guilty to the brutal rape of a DeKalb County woman.

According to reports, John Russell Carver sexually attacked a woman on Feb. 26 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church as she prepared the church for Sunday services.

Detectives identified Carver as a suspect in the rape by matching his DNA on file with the prison system to DNA collected at the crime scene, according to reports.

Judge Asha Jackson sentenced Carver to two consecutive life sentences plus 115 years.

Carve pleaded to 10 counts during the Friday hearing.

The counts in final sentencing included: rape, armed robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, burglary and possession of a knife during commission of a felony.

"This was an extremely violent and vicious act," said District Attorney James. "He brutally attacked and raped a woman in a local church.  Hopefully this guilty plea will bring resolve for both the victim of this crime and the community affected by this monstrous act."
