FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Fulton Science Academy Middle School released an official review on Thursday of an audit recently conducted by the district.
The 56-page report says the findings in the district's audit were flawed, unsupported and inaccurate. It says the firm the district hired relied on incomplete information and unsupported assumptions instead of facts.
"It's easy to make sound bites that have all these dots out there but they don't connect the dots," said Angela Lassetter, a member of the school's governing board.
Fulton County Schools refused to renew the academy's charter which expires this month. The academy was later denied a state charter by Georgia's Department of Education. It will now operate as a private school.
The district's audit found everything from questionable bookkeeping to poor security at the Alpharetta school.
Lassetter said the academy hired a firm to review the audit to set the record straight.
"My integrity and that of the school has been impugned. He's defamed the school," said Lassetter referring to Fulton County School Superintendent Robert Avossa.
A spokeswoman for Fulton County Schools said the district had received the report but refused to comment until leaders had a chance to review it.
"I think Fulton Science Academy has been given a black eye by Fulton County at best," said Lassetter. "I think that they've pretty much been murdered at worst."
