ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
President Barack Obama came to Atlanta to raise money for his re-election campaign.
The visit was part of a two-day, four-state trip to haul in millions of campaign dollars.
The president will need every penny as his Republican challenger Mitt Romney rakes in millions.
Obama
landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Tuesday morning on his way to a
$500-per-person fundraiser at the Westin Hotel in downtown Atlanta.
The president told a ballroom crowded with supporters about his plan to jump-start a slow economy.
"I've
got a vision that says grow the economy and put people back to work,
every child has best possible education," the president said.
Obama hoped to raise $3 million on campaign stops that took him through New Hampshire, Boston, Atlanta and Miami.
The
president is in for a tough campaign against Romney. How much the
candidates raise could determine who becomes president. According to The
Associated Press, Obama has $100 million in his campaign coffers, but
Romney raised more than $76 million last month alone.
Conservative
political action committees are expected to contribute more than a
billion dollars before Election Day. Democratic PACs have struggled to
raise money, and that means Romney could raise more money and outspend
Obama.
The president told the audience he needs their help.
"I believe in you, I hope you still believe in me."
The president is raising money at the beginning of a big week for the White House.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule this week on Obama's most important achievement, the healthcare overhaul law.
The
high court already ruled yesterday on Arizona's illegal immigration
law, upholding a section that allows police to stop and check the
immigration status of someone they suspect is in the country illegally, a
provision the White House said undermines civil rights.
The president later flew to Miami, where he was scheduled to attend two fundraisers.
