COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A tree fell on top of a Cobb County apartment building early Monday morning, barely missing the five people inside.
"It sounded like a bomb went off," said Johnny McClenton, who was sleeping inside.
The tree fell around 3 a.m. at the Rockledge Apartments on Powers Ferry Road. It sliced through the roof and into one apartment's kitchen and foyer.
Amazingly, the five young men inside escaped uninjured.
"The damage was so grand, any of us could have been severely hurt or killed, so I just thank God for preserving our lives and keeping us covered," said McClenton.
It remained unclear what caused the tree to fall.
The men said, however, what scared them more than the falling tree was what they perceived as a poor response from apartment management.
"They didn't seemingly take this issue seriously," said McClenton.
The men said a maintenance worker responded, but could do little without management's consent. It took management six hours to send someone.
CBS Atlanta caught up with a management representative mid-morning. She said they were "assessing the situation and had no comment".
