Fulton County inspects property owner for environmental concerns

FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

CBS Atlanta News tried to question the owner of a Fulton County property on Friday, who is being investigated because of environmental concerns.

The environmental concern is located at 7085 Roosevelt Highway near Fairburn.

An employee at the property said the owner, Daniel Calhoun, wasn't there.

"Do you know when he'll be back?" CBS Atlanta Reporter Adam Murphy asked.

"He should be back in a couple of hours," an employee said.

The business appears to be storing gallons and gallons of grease on the property, when they're listed as a truck driving business online.

Fulton County Code Enforcement is actively investigating the business after receiving a tip from the Fairburn Police Department.

"We responded, did some initial investigation and that caused some additional concerns so now we're furthering our investigation to take a thorough look at the property to determine what, if any code violations may be existing," Tony Phillips with Fulton County Code Enforcement said.

We've also learned the Environmental Protection Division is planning to inspect the property next week to determine if any waste is seeping into the water table.

"There did appear to be some type of grease operation running there as well as some other issues and so that is what the investigation is designed to uncover," Phillips said.

CBS Atlanta News received a call from the CPA of the company on Friday, who is located in Miami. He said the owner does not want to discuss anything while there is an active investigation. He also said that there is nothing illegal going on at the property.
