LITTLE ROCK, AR (CNN) -
A decision made by the Arkansas Supreme Court means there's no way for the state to carry out executions.
The ruling left Arkansas' death penalty in place, but struck down the part about how executions were carried out. That includes lethal injection and electrocution.
It all began with a lawsuit by death row inmates.
The court ruled that there was a violation of the state's separation of powers doctrine.
It found corrections officials were given too much power in determining the cocktail of chemicals used in executions.
The governor of Arkansas says he hopes to have a "proposed remedy" in the next few months.
