STARKVILLE, MS (AP) -

Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin says construction should begin before the end of the next football season on an $80 million expansion to add about 6,000 seats to the stadium.

He tells The Clarion-Ledger that the project is out for bid, and might be awarded by the end of July. It will be completed before the 2014 season -- and the university's centennial.

Davis Wade Stadium seats 55,082. It is the second-oldest stadium in the Football Bowl Subdivision and second-smallest stadium in the Southeastern Conference. The university says it will seat at least 61,000 after the work.

Mike Richey, who's in charge of ticket operations, says about 1,560 fans are on a waiting list for season tickets. The university has had 16 straight home sellouts.
