AUGUSTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A young Georgia woman battling a flesh-eating disease has begun incorporating pain medication into her ongoing treatment and recovery.
In a blog post, Aimee Copeland's father Andy Copeland said since her most recent skin graft surgery Friday, the use of several medications has become necessary.
"She occasionally cries from the pain, but she stops because crying hurts her stomach," Andy Copeland said in the post.
Aimee still found the strength to wish her father well on his special day Sunday.
Andy Copeland wrote, "She looked at me with sad, raised eyebrows and whispered softly, 'Daddy?' 'Yes honey?' I answered. 'Happy Father's Day,' she said as her sadness withered into a faint smile."
Aimee, 24, was upgraded from critical to serious condition at Doctors Hospital of Augusta on Tuesday.
Copeland developed necrotizing fasciitis after cutting her leg in a May 1 fall from a homemade zip line over a west Georgia river. Her left leg, right foot and both hands have been amputated.
Andy Copeland has been keeping a blog on her condition at AimeeCopeland.com.
