DULUTH, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A boy, 3, remained in critical condition Monday morning after nearly drowning at a Duluth apartment complex Sunday evening.
Gwinnett County rescuers responded to the Menlo Creek Apartments on Satellite Boulevard.
The child's family said they were cooking-out when they noticed the little boy, lying lifeless, at the bottom of the pool.
Another neighbor, also barbecuing nearby, jumped into action performing CPR.
"I was crying while it was happening, and there was a Spanish lady behind me saying, 'Don't give up; don't give up.' And I was pressing, and I kept on giving the CPR," explained the neighbor, who identified herself only as Angie-Marie.
She said a young girl, about 12 years old, is the real hero because she was the one who first spotted the toddler and pulled him to safety.
An ambulance arrived just as the child got a pulse again. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth.
Gwinnett County police are investigating.
