CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating after an officer-involved shooting Saturday night in Clayton County.

Police said officers responded to a domestic disturbance at the Sandlewood Apartments on Mount Zion Road around 5:45 p.m.

Officers were able to make contact with a woman who had visible injures after an aggravated assault with a firearm, according to police.

Police said warrants were secured for the suspect's arrest for aggravated assault.

Officers tried to make contact with the suspect, who was inside the apartment, but he did not respond. Before entering the apartment, officers were informed that the suspect had pre-existing warrants for his arrest out of DeKalb County.

After two hours and warrants were obtained, officers went into the apartment, found the suspect and shots were fired, according to police.

The suspect was shot and taken to a local hospital. No officers were injured.

Police said it is standard procedure for the GBI to investigate any officer-involved shooting.

The names of the suspect or victim have not been released.
