Tough Questions for landlord about garage door repair

Posted: Updated:

Yolanda Partridge began renting a home on Stonebrook Drive in Lithonia less than two weeks ago and since then, her world has come crashing down.

"It's weighing on me. I can't eat, I can't sleep," Partridge said.

She said her garage door fell down a few days ago, but her landlord never came out to look at the problem. Now she's afraid for the safety of her granddaughter.

"All I want is for me and my family to get settled and we are far from being settled. I am so tired and I can't believe he is renting properties under these conditions," Partridge said.

Partridge said the only response she got from her landlord, Mark Thomas, was the following text message:

"If you weren't such a worrisome tenant that calls every time the wind changes directions, I may have considered," Partridge said.

So CBS Atlanta News checked the tax records and went to Thomas' home on Mossey Drive in Lithonia, but nobody answered the door. Thomas did show up at the Partridge's home to answer our tough questions.

"Why has it taken you so long to come out and look at it?" CBS Atlanta Reporter Adam Murphy asked.

"My correspondence with the tenant when she called was that Friday, which was the day I said I would come out," Thomas said.

Thomas said he had a repair man inspect the garage door Friday morning and a part has been ordered to fix the problem.

"When will this be fixed?" Murphy asked.

"It will be fixed bright and early tomorrow morning," Thomas said.
